Samar El Yassir, winner of the Humuntum operational Excellence Award, 2020, is a Development professional with more than 30 years of experience in managing social development projects and more than ten years’ experience as a Country Representative and Director. She has extensive experience working in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, having consulted in Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Bahrain, Egypt, Yemen and Iraq. As the Lebanon Country Director for ANERA since 2011, Ms. El Yassir is ANERA’s senior representative in the country, responsible for all of ANERA’s programs and operations. These projects include promoting responsible tourism, access and quality of health care programs, and vocational training. Ms. El Yassir also served as a Country Representative for DIAKONIA for four years as the overall manager of the organization’s Lebanon program. She managed the regional program on social and economic rights in the MENA region. She co-authored an article “Impairments, disabilities and needs assessment among non-fatal war injuries in South Lebanon, Grapes of Wrath” published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health in 1999. She has also published guides on how to deal with and recognize blindness, cerebral palsy and disabilities in young children through the Arab Resource Collective. Mrs. El Yassir earned a Post Graduate Diploma degree in Community Based Rehabilitation (Disabilities Studies) from the University of London in 1993.
